Behind the Scenes... with Giulia

We would like to introduce our newest member to the kew.159 head office team, Giulia. Giulia has been with us for a few weeks now interning with the Visual Merchandising team, assisting on store visits and working here at head office on multiple projects.

Having conducted some research into the brand, including the exciting brand relaunch last August, Giulia applied for an internship at head office to gain some valuable knowledge in the fashion industry and complete her 3 year degree. She moved to London (from her home in Italy) a few months ago and has settled quickly into life here at the home of kew.159.

As assistant to the VM department, Giulia has been visiting stores with Silvia and Lucy (seen above) helping to create the new Spring Summer window displays and redesign the layout of the shop floors to coincide with the new season launch. She has also been working on preparing the catalogue and matching style shots to garment information here at head office, as well as various other projects the team need help with.

Giulia's favourite piece from the new collection is the Stripe T Shirt Dress (featured on the blog yesterday), as well as the pleated maxi skirt in black which she would team with a short sleeved stripe tee for the perfect spring look when the weather gets warmer!

We would like to thank Giulia for all her hard work so far, it is a pleasure having her on the kew.159 team!

We know it is a bit early to be donning our sun hats and flip flops and heading out in floaty dresses in February, but new in this week is the nautical inspired Stripe T Shirt Dress in navy and white. We think it is the perfect easy-to-wear dress for the beginning of spring with its elegant knee length hemline, short sleeves and grosgrain trim detail on the waist. Address Book... Chiswick

You will see a new feature appearing on the kew.159 blog from today titled 'Address Book', a blog post dedicated to one of the beautiful kew.159 stores across the UK. We think each store is special in its own right, and this series begins with our very lovely store in the centre of Chiswick in west London.

Within the store you will find Marcela, who has been with kew.159 for three and a half years, who describes Chiswick as a lovely shopping location with a distinct village feel. With small independent boutiques and cafes lining the high street (we would particularly recommend the High Road Brasserie next door and The Kitchen Pantry at no. 216) and numerous summer fairs, festivals and markets in the summer months, the area attracts all ages and customers into the store.

The store itself is light, airy and spaciously presented with 6 large changing rooms to the rear of the shop. The recently installed Valentine's windows coincide with the release of the 'Spots and Stripes' collection, made up of bright reds, whites and navy mixed in with tan accessories and delicate jewellery. Splashes of vivid green, orange and yellow in bold prints and patterns hang from the rail like artwork, and are sure to bring cheer to your winter wardrobe.

Attractions such as Chiswick House and Gardens are just up the road making it is easy to spend the afternoon exploring the surrounding area and with celebrity spots such as Adele, Colin Firth and Nicky Chapman (a loyal kew.159 customer) mentioned on a regular basis, you never know who you might bump into on your visit!

The Lace Trim Dress...

With the release of The Great Gatsby film this year, the 1920's featured heavily on the catwalk for Spring Summer 2012 and kew.159 have created our own modern twist on the 'Gatsby Girl' dress. New in this week it is a real showstopper with its beautifully feminine lace panels and sophisticated black colourway.

The sweet cap sleeves and gentle shift shape will flatter all body shapes, and the soft embroidered on-trend lace panels make it an easy-to-wear dress for both day and evening. The lace detail is most clearly seen on the neckline and hem, with an exposed panel of lace falling across the shoulders on the back of the dress and the lace hem sitting slightly below the lining.

We believe this dress is the perfect transitional dress from winter into spring/summer, and we are wearing it with thick tights, soft leather boots and our favourite chunky knitwear whilst there is still a chill in the air. However, we are already looking forward to wearing it when the weather warms up and we can team it with bright sandals and a straw hat and for a truly 'Gatsby' look!

However, there's nothing depressing about the blues in our new collection on the website, perfect for the 'back to work' wardrobe and weekend staples!

For our latest instalment of ‘Regional Focus’ we visited the kew.159 store on James Street in Central London. Located a short walk from Bond Street Tube Station, this shop is one of the first you come to on the quiet road that branches away from busy Oxford Street.

The store was busy with shoppers browsing our latest collection and taking advantage of the mid-season sale, which offers a discount on some of the most popular Autumn/Winter items.

It is so much colder outside this week and I am starting to wear my winter coats again. I find they hide most of my outfit and I end up looking a bit plain. Do you have any tips for how to jazz up a winter coat so it looks like a stylish outfit?

“Anna, we are delighted you have asked us to help as this is a common problem that shoppers face. We would like to give you three different examples of how to dress up a winter coat.

Our first example follows classic styling and includes our popular black Trench Coat. To add extra warmth and a quirky twist to your trench, we suggest teaming it with a snood and matching sheepskin boots. The Parka is billed as a must have item for your wardrobe this autumn. We recently sent stylist, Chloe Arnold (pictured right), on a kew.159 Style Mission to show you how to wear this crucial piece, from day to night.

The Mission: To create a stylish and comfortable look using the parka, which will suit all shapes and ages.

As the parka is a major trend this season, it is important to tackle it with no fear. If you are worried about how to wear the parka, then you are not alone as I also find it a testing trend. However, I love a challenge and since this kew.159 Style Mission, I have actually grown particularly fond of the parka. The main reason for my new found affection is that it often adds wonderful contrast.

For this look, I chose a beautiful dark khaki green military shirt dress from the kew.159 collection, which is a great staple for this season. This dress is flattering on most shapes. The structured sleeves and buttons, which run from top to bottom, create the illusion of length. They also distract the eye from those lumps and bumps that some of us like to hide.

I chose a mid length parka from the new collection because I wanted it to compliment the length of the shirt dress. However, kew.159 also offers the parka in a shorter style. I added some cosy grey tights and channeled the Navajo trend, which is big this season, with a pair of gorgeous tasseled brown suede ankle boots. To top it off, I put a beautiful shearling bag across the body to add a touch of texture to this casual look.

The beauty of a parka is that no matter how glamourous an outfit, this coat has officially been deemed acceptable to provide a really cool and quirky finish to any look.

For night, I opted for a beautiful cream floral dress from the new collection. It has gorgeous cap sleeves, which are really flattering, and a lovely matching belt to cinch in at your waist and show off those curves. It is a lovely pencil dress that suits most figures and gives a sexy but sophisticated look.

As you can see, the parka provides a lovely contrast to the dress but also brings a modern vibe to the outfit. I then opted to follow the Navajo trend for the footwear, to bring out the black floral pattern in the dress.

This morning, we showcased our brand new collection to key members of the press at a breakfast event in our store on High Street Kensington.

Images from the campaign and the behind-the-scenes video were projected onto the wall of the store. Journalists were greeted by a selection of nibbles, including some pretty pink sparkly kew.159 sparrow biscuits.

Two models wore popular dresses from the new collection and the store staff were also dressed in key kew.159 pieces for the Autumn/Winter season.

We have received lots of positive feedback from press to date, with Fashion Director, Alexandra Fullerton tweeting; “At [the] Kew.159 relaunch on High st Ken. Love the mix of actual clothes I want to wear and proper trends. A revelation on the British High Street!”

The kew.159 Look Book offers a number of stylish outfits for the new season. One of our favourites is the popular Jackson Print Dress, teamed with our Biker Jacket.

The Jackson Print Dress was recently voted the perfect dress for every figure by Woman magazine. Details such as the cowl neck and silky material make it a flattering choice.

kew.159 to host a number of customer events this autumn

September is just around the corner and kew.159 has a number of exciting store events planned.

Our first Customer Evening will be hosted by the Bluewater store on Tuesday 6^th September. The event takes place from 6-8pm and a bra fitting service will be provided by John Lewis.

On Thursday 8^th September, Tunbridge Wells, Chiswick and East Sheen will be hosting events. A fashion show will take place in the Tunbridge Wells store, presenting customers with all the key looks for the new season. Laura Mercier make over sessions will also be available.

Our East Sheen store will have a number of spot prizes on offer during their event. These include a £50 gift voucher, a bottle of wine and the chance to become a VIP customer and win a personal shopping experience.

The Islington and Salisbury stores will complete our first week of customer events. On Thursday 8^th of September, the Islington store will host a reception from 6-8pm. They will be giving away goodie bags from Space NK and those spending over £200 will receive a complimentary make over. Meanwhile, on Friday the Salisbury store will have hair and make up experts on hand throughout the afternoon offering free consultations.

The kew.159 store in Walton-on-Thames is busy preparing for a fashion show that will be held at the Heart Shopping Centre this Saturday.
